Events

California Competes hosts events to convene experts in higher education policy and engage changemakers in important discourse focused on a double bottom line to achieve equity for students and grow our regional economies. We host these discussions to educate, inspire, and inform policymakers, community leaders, and the general public with the ultimate goal of recalibrating our higher education system to create clear pathways for California students to meet workforce demands, stoke economic growth, and engage in our communities.

After years of benign neglect, higher education must become a front-burner issue for elected leaders who have an obligation to respond to the needs of California’s voters. Conversations on the Future of Higher Education features California's candidates for lieutenant governor, California State Senator Ed Hernandez and Former U.S. Ambassador to Hungary Eleni Kounalakis, in conversation with California Competes Executive Director Dr. Lande Ajose. Together with College Futures Foundation, California Competes co-hosted the event on September 25, 2018. The program was livestreamed from the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco.
