A Two-Generation Approach Helps Student Parents Achieve Success at One California Community College

California Competes Interim Executive Director Ria Sengupta Bhatt recently spoke with representatives from the Los Angeles Valley College Family Resource Center about how student parents are staying committed to their educational goals by accessing a wide variety of support services on campus. Los Angeles Valley College is the only community college among the California Community Colleges’ 114 campuses to offer a comprehensive resource center to student parents.

Their conversation sheds light on why like many other students in California, student parents have basic needs that must be met for them to be successful in college.

Joining the conversation were:

  • Marni Roosevelt, Founder and Director, Los Angeles Valley College Family Resource Center
  • Amber Angel, Program Coordinator, Los Angeles Valley College Family Resource Center
  • Dr. Doug Marriott, Dean of Adult/Community Education & Workforce Development, Los Angeles Valley College
