California’s next lieutenant governor can significantly influence higher education policy and practice as a University of California regent, a trustee of the California State University, and chair of the Commission for Economic Development.
California Competes: Higher Education for a Strong Economy and College Futures Foundation co-hosted a rich discussion on higher education and the workforce at the Commonwealth Club on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. The candidates individually sat down for sequential conversations with California Competes Executive Director Dr. Lande Ajose and CALmatters Higher Education Reporter Felicia Mello.
“California Competes’ higher education policy and advocacy work is focused on a double bottom line to both achieve equity for California’s diverse population of students in higher education, and to ensure higher education continues to fuel the growth of our state’s varied and robust regional economies. Conversations on the Future of Higher Education shed light on those issues that advance those twins goals,” Dr. Ajose said.
“Tuesday night’s event coincided with National Voter Registration Day. College Futures Foundation believes it is vital for voters to understand how and why this role and race are so important to our students, and to make higher education a front-burner issue for the elected leaders who have an obligation to respond to and plan for the needs of California residents,” College Futures Foundation President and CEO Monica Lozano said.
