What motivates you to advance the mission at California Competes?

"I was a first-generation college student and luckily stumbled into educational and employment opportunities, but I don’t think fair and equal access to opportunity should be up to luck. I am driven by the memory of the students I used to teach, who came from incredibly difficult circumstances that required superhuman efforts for them to overcome. I want to use my skills as a researcher to inform systems and structures to support youth like those I used to teach so that they have the same chances at advancement that I had."
