Colleges and Universities Must Step Up to Support Vulnerable Californians

On Friday, CalMatters published an op-ed by California Competes Executive Director Dr. Su Jin Gatlin Jez concerning the steps higher education must take to better support students whose education has been put on hold. The barriers in need of addressing predate COVID-19, and their solutions are both known and attainable.

Bolstered by the state’s staggering budget surplus and motivated by historic inequities, California’s colleges and universities have a unique opportunity to institute reforms and make higher education more flexible and feasible for potential graduates across the state.
