Timely Request: Support the GAINS for Student Parents Act by 3/25

/

Over the last year, California Competes joined forces with EdTrust-West to establish the California Alliance for Student Parent Success (The Alliance), a coalition committed to supporting the postsecondary success and wellbeing of student parents and their families.

We’re excited to announce that we’re cosponsoring our first bill as The Alliance: GAINS for Student Parents Act (AB 2458). The GAINS for Student Parents Act, which addresses two of The Alliance’s core policy priorities (college affordability and data collection), will be heard in the Assembly Higher Education Committee on April 2nd. We need your help to uplift student parent needs and enable them to better afford college.

Will you join us in supporting the GAINS for Student Parents Act (AB 2458)? There are three ways you can help:

  1. Organizations can submit a letter of support by March 25, 2024. Not part of an organization? Students and children of student parents can show their individual support here and faculty can show their support here.
  2. Join us in Sacramento for the hearing and provide public comment on April 2, 2024. The hearing starts at 1:30 p.m. in Room 437 at the State Capitol. Let California Competes Policy Director AJ Johnson know if you’ll be attending by emailing them at .
  3. Thank Assemblymember Berman and Senator Limón for their leadership on social media by liking and sharing these posts

If you have questions about AB 2458 or how to support it, please contact California Competes’s Policy Director AJ Johnson at .
