Building a Path to Economic Security for East San Jose’s Low-Wage Workers

With support from the Sobrato Philanthropies, California Competes is partnering with San Jose City College (SJCC) to develop a college model tailored to the needs of low-wage workers in East San Jose. This two-year initiative aims to create an educational framework that promotes economic mobility and addresses the unique challenges faced by this community.

We’re gathering insights and feedback from low-wage workers and community partners to develop solutions tailored to their needs. SJCC will implement and test the developed solutions, and we’ll work with them to provide continuous feedback and support to refine and optimize the model.

By advancing educational and career pathways for the low-wage worker population, this effort can support the state in addressing critical workforce gaps and propelling the economy forward.
